Reading description and instructions

Descriptions usually begin with a mention of the topic are subject to introduce it. The subject could be a person, animal or subject or it could be something more abstract like a custom or an organization.

This introduction is followed by a list of the various attributes of the subject. If it is a long text, the topic comes in the first sentence and the attributes in the body of the paragraph.

Examples of  expository text that might fit in to this structure are travel brochures, descriptions of animals, description of scientific concepts, etc. When where reading a description then we can ask questions like; What is being described ? What do we learn about this subject ? Let us look at few examples of this pattern.
